Desktop Icons Flashing – Microsoft Update Issue (Fixed)

Many customers have reported their desktop icons flashing multiple times when booting into Windows or opening / closing browsers or other programs. 

The issue was caused by a recent Microsoft Windows 11 update that broke compatibility with how we uniquely identify each computer (to protect your privacy).

We’ve created a simple fix for this Microsoft-induced problem.

How to Use the Fix

1. Download and open the zip file.
2. Double-click Double-Click-Me.bat
3. Click Extract when prompted.
4. Double-click Double-Click-Me.bat again.
5. Click Yes on the Administrator prompt.

! Important Behavior:

• When the fix is successful, the tool will log you out and automatically reboot the computer.
• If the computer does NOT log you out and reboot, please restart manually and run Double-Click-Me.bat again.

After a successful run (the one that forces logout + reboot), the flashing icons should be completely resolved.

Important Notes

• This fix is safe and does not delete any files, programs, or settings.
• It does not affect OneDrive or your Microsoft account.
• You should only need to run it once (or twice if a reboot is required first).

We’ve already updated our imaging process so new systems will not have this issue.
